This past week has been very eventful. I spent three days up at Science Camp with the 5th grade of Longfellow Elementary. It was so fun. Most of these kids do not get to leave Mesa so it was exciting to share this experience with them. We almost did not go due to the Promontory Fire that was about 7-9 miles 0% contained while we were there. But we did anyway. The people that run the camp were not worried because the Forest Service said that the fire was blowing the opposite way. They told us the procedures for evacuation, in case we needed to. We also had a fire drill while up there. Unfortunately, we were unable to go on the hike the last day because we had to stay within the campgrounds.
Despite the fire, we had an enjoyable time. The first night we had skits, talent show, and kareoke. I can get a little wild at times dancing around having fun. The next day I was talking to a kid in another class and I said, "Robert, you're crazy!" His reply was, "I'm crazy?" I guess I don't realize how weird I can be to other kids. I guess my own class is just used to me.
The next day was full of science activities. We also watched a movie and had "Chubby Bunnies" contests with marshmallows. We were unable to have a bonfire so we sang camp songs with our guitars in the Memorial Hall. Dave, our principal, took the kids on a night hike and brought them back for a treat (smores without a fire).
The next day we cleaned up and played various activities around the camp until the buses arrived. Finally we were able to come home (and get some sleep). I went to bed pretty early and I am still trying to recover from lost sleep.
