Twins are 7 months!

Life as we know it is getting more fun. This stage is full of smiles, laughs, and screams of delight. We can't imagine our lives without these two, even though sometimes it's more challenging with two babies. Still not easy but just more fun.

Stats:
Elizabeth:
Weight: 16 lbs 15 oz. (50%)
height: 27.25 in. (75%)
Head: 17 in. (50%)

Liam:
Weight: 15 lbs. 7 oz (5%)
Height: 26.5 in (25%)
Head: 17 in (20%)

Liam is a lot like Wyatt was developmentally/weight, etc. Elizabeth is in a class of her own. Seems to fit her personality. :)

Elizabeth is already our little princess. She can cause drama but is really fun to be around. She loves to know what is going on and loves to be the center of attention. She gets around really well by rolling and scooting backwards and was caught this week on her hands and knees. I predict crawling soon. She will NOT eat baby food. In the month or so that we've started she has eaten three bites. She liked the pouch so I went and bought a bunch but quickly changed her mind. She is a stubborn one I tell ya.

Liam is progressing nicely. He rolls over way more but is super content and chill to just do whatever. He is trying to stick up for himself more and more but is just too sweet. He eats baby food like a champ.

Both sleep well at night. Liam wakes up earlier but we don't go in until close to 7. The morning nap is starting to lengthen so that's good. Sometimes if Liam wakes up I go help him back to sleep and he will give me another hour. But if Elizabeth wakes up she is up until the next nap time. She can go longer than Liam between naps. They still take three naps so one day the afternoon nap will get longer. Fingers crossed. :) Nap time is the hardest so sometimes I dread it because I swear its more work than when they are awake. Shouldn't that be the opposite? But I'll take any break I can.

We love our twins!

There's always a rainbow after rain

"'Twas 11 days before Christmas around 9:38, when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate......."

This is part of a poem I saw after tragedy struck our nation. On Friday, December 14, 2012 a gunman entered Sandy Hook Elementary and killed about 28 people, 20 of them being kids. As I heard the news and saw pictures I teared up. When I saw a picture of teachers guiding their students to safety I began to sobb. I can't even imagine being in that situation.

As a teacher, I've had to be in lockdown several times with students. We are supposed to act normal and be calm and most importantly keep the students safe. As stories kept unfolding of the brave teachers and students, I stood in awe. But the devastation of all those families that wouldn't have their little ones at home for Christmas ripped my heart strings. Completely devastating.

Sometimes when tragedy comes it takes awhile for it to sink in with me. This past week we were all sick. Let's just say the Plague hit all of us. It really was bad. It's the sickest Wyatt has ever been. But there was a moment that touched me. He said, "Mom, will you hold me?" Of course we enjoyed the next few minutes on the couch together and I started to tear up because it finally hit me. As difficult as sick kids can be sometimes (while you are sick too) I was so blessed to be able to snuggle Wyatt and the twins. So blessed to still have them call me mom because at that moment there were 20 moms that couldn't snuggle or comfort their little 6 year old. They wouldn't hear that sweet little voice say, "Mom."

I know that there is hope for the families of Newtown, CT through Jesus Christ. I saw a rainbow on that devastating Friday afternoon that made me think that there is always hope. Every time it rains, there is always a rainbow. After trials and tribulations come many blessings. Our nation has come together as we mourn the people of Sandy Hook Elementary.

So for now, I'll just hug my loved ones a bit tighter and say, "I love you" a bit more.

Ornaments 2012

Here are the finds this year:

Babies-they both got owls with "Baby's First Christmas." It fit perfectly because their nursery is owls.

Wyatt- Power Ranger. He is SO into ninjas and fighting this year.

Kate- Russian babushka doll. Inside is more than one doll. It multiplies. (we had a set of multiples). :) It doesn't really have any inside but you get the point.

Jason-the big star. He always complains that we don't have one so I told him to get it for his ornament. I love it! It looks beautiful.

A "Long" December

This year Thanksgiving was super early (or at least it felt like it was to me). We had our ornaments, sat on Santa's lap, and had gone to see the temple lights all before December 1st. We also already have presents under our tree from my mom so it has seemed extra long before Christmas. Perhaps it's because Wyatt asks every day if it is Christmas yet. :)

We were needing some extra motivation to be nice around here so I bought the Elf on the Shelf. Cole is his name. It has been fun moving and finding him every day. I am definitely keeping it low key until my kids get a bit older. I just move him to different places. I haven't had him do crazy stuff. He did eat syrup for two days (Wyatt was naughty so he didn't move) but that is about as crazy as it has gotten around here.

I took Wyatt to put change in the Salvation Army bucket last week to teach him about giving. And I had him buy gifts for Jason and the babies to teach him about giving but let's just say he still feels like getting presents is the best part. Sigh. One day.

We are decorating cookies and a gingerbread house this week so we have more fun to be had. This year I haven't been able to do all the traditions we are used to but maybe next year we will be back at it. :)

We have been reading Christmas stories by the Christmas tree by day and watching Christmas movies by night. We are having a picnic by the tree tonight. Even though it's a busy time of year it's been good to keep it slow at home to enjoy the season. And believe it or not I'm almost done with shopping for Christmas. Thank you Amazon!

I love this time of year!

Wyatt Turns 4

Wyatt is finally 4! He has been so excited to be 4. We are glad too. :). He wanted to have a ninja party so ninja party it was. I aim to please. Just give these boys some weapons and they are good to go. :)

We had some ninja training, fight the snakes, fight Lord Garmaddon, and ate pizza and cupcakes with ice cream. Everyone had a blast! We ended up celebrating his birthday all week long (like his mommy). He got some pirate ships, new pajamas, and lots of Lego Ninjago stuff. He is in heaven!

Twins are 6 months

The twins turned 6 months on Thanksgiving. To celebrate we gave them sweet potatoes. We have been doing rice cereal for a week before and decided they should go for the gold!

We made it to 6 months finally! That's when Jason and I start liking babies. :) Here is what they are up to:

Elizabeth
-rolls all over the place.
-sleeps on her tummy
-we CIO with her at naps and she is finally getting better
-has started taking longer naps (1-1 1/2hrs even 2) but unfortunately I have to wake her up after awhile now because Liam now takes 45 min naps. And he is harder to hold off than she is.
-loves to laugh, play with anything new, and smile at anyone. Most of the time she looks at me and says, "Is this person okay to smile at?"
-screams with delight during play time
-HATES baby food. Seriously, she is so stubborn and will not even open her mouth for the life of me.

Liam
-rolled over day before thanksgiving for the first time. He doesn't do it very often though.
-turned into a cat napper again (45 min). I never know when anyone will wake up so I basically don't get anything done because I can't plan. I lie. I do laundry and that's it!
-still goes to sleep like a champ and sleeps right through Elizabeth screaming. But then wakes up 15 min after she falls asleep. Just keepin' it real for you. :)
-is eating baby food fabulous. No problems whatsoever except it makes him a bit clogged up I think. I've offered water in sippy cups to both and they are still getting the hang of it. One day.

Overall we are still hanging in there. We have our bad and good days. We have a schedule just not the exact one I like. But knowing babies they will switch it up really soon. :) Twins are hard to figure out so it is a daily battle of figuring out what works. But they are cute and bring joy into our lives. Wyatt keeps talking about when they grow more that they can do this or that. Can you tell he is desperate for playmates?

We love you, Liam and Elizabeth!

Pics of Disney

Twins' Trip to Disney

A few months ago Jason planned a trip to Disneyland with some of his family. I was a bit hesitant with the twins and all but we went and we had a good time.

It was difficult trying to keep up with everyone with two babies and a 3 year old so we decided to go at our own pace. Wyatt just wanted to be at Cars Land anyway so everyone was happy.

The twins did pretty well taking naps in the stroller. Sometimes they were staggered but what's new there. :) Now the hotel room and dealing with daylight savings was a different story. Seriously, the were up by 530 and cried A LOT! Jason and I had ear plugs in and still couldn't sleep. It was pretty bad so we were all happy to be home in our own rooms.

Jason and Wyatt loved going into the "steam" pool when we got home every night. Jason said it was his favorite part spending time with Wyatt (and the rest of us).

My favorite was riding Radiator Springs Racers and getting to know my stroller better. And I'll just say I love it and is worth every penny.

Wyatt loved EVERYTHING! He just loves Disneyland and keeps asking when we can go back. :)

Go BYU

Even though we support ASU football, we bleed blue through and through. That was our favorite game this year watching BYU play Utah. Even though we didn't like the end score it was fun to dress up.

College football 2012

Every year Jason gets season tickets for ASU football with my brothers and BILs. This year was no different but it became more fun because he got two tickets so he could start his father/son sport bonding with Wyatt. :) And I got to go to a game so it was a win/win. But the best part was hearing Wyatt talk about his fun night outs with just Daddy. Adorable!

Of course Jason never got a picture but I did.

Sleep is Overrated

Sleep is overrated.

Okay I personally do not believe this but apparently my kids do. All three of them have sleep issues of one kind or another lately. Ugh!

Wyatt has been waking up earlier and earlier. I've referenced the Sleep Bible and he will be going to bed earlier since he isn't really taking naps anymore. He still does on occasion but it's rare, even though we have quiet time daily. I think he has been having too much fun with friends and cousins. But that has saved me many times so I've had to forgo the naps for my well being. So, we will see if it makes a difference.

Elizabeth is just plain overtired. She still is hanging onto 45 minute naps. Yes, I try to put her back to sleep but she won't. She sleeps pretty well at night most nights but the naps are driving me cray cray.

Liam can give me good naps most of the time but will occasionally wake up after 45 minutes (like today). But he wakes up at the CRACK of dawn. I'm actually not sure the exact time he wakes up since I'm exercising but it's pretty close to 6. And depending on how his naps go he has good and bad nights.

Maybe I'm just selfish. I want sleep. I want my kids to sleep. I need my exercise/get ready time. I need to get stuff done during the day. I just want us all to be happy.

But when we are all overtired, patience is pretty thin around here. There are more tantrums, crying, yelling, and just plain bad moods.

We just need more sleep around here. Our house often looks like this. (no pic of Liam because he usually chooses to cry in the car when I can't get picture). And I'm usually wanting to cry or pull hair out.

We are all just plain tired.

Election Night 2012

Today our family is suffering from Post Election Depression. Mitt Romney ran against President Obama. Although it is difficult to beat an incumbent, we were hopeful. But yet we were defeated.

I prayed today for our amazing country, both parties, President Obama, Mitt Romney, and my husband's job. I know the President wants what is best for America even though our views might be different on how to get there. I'll keep praying for our leaders because I'm grateful to be an American. And to live in a free country.

I'm excited I have the right to vote but I'm starting to question if my vote ever counts. :) Lets be honest, many things/people I vote for doesn't happen. FB was full of political posts lately and I never got annoyed. I loved that people were getting involved with issues they care about. But I hope we can work together because it looks like our country is divided. I am not against anyone who may disagree with my stance. In fact I respect your stance. But I just hope our country can change for the better for all of us. :)

Jason said, "There goes my job," when the results came in. I hope it doesn't. I hope that our country and the Constitution is defended. After all, our forefathers were guided on how to set up this country. They were some great men or so I've heard. :)

Im not one to get all political but I sure thought our constitution was "hanging by a thread" already but I guess we still have more to learn.

God Bless the USA!

October Conference 2012

Thought I would document the big news announced in Conference this year in case my grandkids read these blog books. :) When the African Americans (not sure what is PC these days) got the Priesthood, it was a big deal and I'm sure our parents wrote about it so I'm writing to my kids.

Dear Wyatt, Liam, and Elizabeth and future prosterity:

While we were all trying to watch conference together, President Monson announced some big news. Boys can now leave on their missions at age 18 after graduating high school or it's equivalent (used to be 19). Girls can now leave at 19 instead of 21. Unbelieveable!

In these latter days, the Lord is obviously needing more of an army. I'm excited for this change and know that it will further the kingdom of God. Please keep preparing yourself to serve a mission and attend the temple so you can be a part of this great army. I didn't serve a mission but I know it will greatly bless your lives. Blessings of the temple will surround your life as well.

I know Heavenly Father has a plan for each of you. Stay on the path and He will guide you. He loves you and I love you.
Love,
Your mom

More Halloween 2012

While Wyatt and Jason went trick or treating this is how our night went. The twins both knew something was up because they were giddy and excited every time there was a knock. We waited around for awhile for kids then finally they started coming.

We sat on a chair with the door open. It felt so nice and we all loved it. Plus, it kept the twins happy. But it came time for bed. I won't lie I was kinda worried about it but it was a piece of cake. I'm that good or I just got lucky tonight. :) Babies fell asleep while eating so they were easy to go to bed and then it was just me and the trick or treaters. Oh and maybe a mini twix.

Have a "Super" Halloween

In the trenches

Whenever I hear the word 'trenches' it reminds me of WW1, the book All Quiet on the Western Front, and that Garth Brook's song about how men are at war but for one night they sing Silent Night together and stop fighting.

Well, after this weekend this phrase means so much more now. We had our annual ward/neighborhood Halloween party. I spotted the cutest kid on a toddler bike dressed as Luigi. A little ways behind him was Mario on a similar bike. Twins!!

As I introduced myself to my soon to be new best "friend," I just had to throw in that I had a pair. Twin moms unite. :) When she asked how old mine were I said, "5 months."

Her reply, "Oh man, you are still in the trenches."

Seriously, that is THE best way to describe it. There is a battle going on but you are just trying to survive.

One day we will get out of the trenches. And I won't lie it might not be for awhile. All of my friends with twins have said around the age of 2 is great because they can communicate, play, etc.

Two just seems really far away.

The best day

After my day from H-E-double hockey sticks yesterday I needed a break. After many days of tears shed every nap struggle, I had a day without. Loved every second of it. I wanted to document it so I can remember that miracles do happen and prayers are heard. It wasn't a coincidence. Heavenly Father has heard every word uttered from my heart.

The day started off pretty normal and looked like it might be another bad day. Elizabeth woke up after 40 minutes of a nap. Liam was still asleep. So I was going to let him sleep his extra 30 minutes. He started waking up around 1020 and I helped him too to make sure he didn't go back to sleep.

Took everyone out to Chickfila and met a friend. Of course, a perfect day involves Chickfila. Then it was back home for naps.

Put the babies down around 1215. Yes, IMO Elizabeth was up WAY too long but if she is going to be naughty then we arent going off of her schedule. Then I finally got some alone time with Wyatt. We played ninjas and legos even though I was exhausted. It was a blast. We got to play for a full uninterrupted hour. I can't remember the last time I truly got to spend some quality time with him. I fully expected Elizabeth to wake up around 1. But no sound. Then I thought for sure by 1:15 someone would be up. I decided to take my chances and put Wyatt down for quiet time.

It was my lucky day. Everyone was in their rooms (babies were asleep) until 3 pm!!! That has never happened where the babies slept that long...especially Elizabeth. I got a nap and was afraid if I started doing something productive that the babies would wake up. So I just rested on couch. :)

After naps we went to the park and met up with a friend. And it didn't stop there. I wasn't going to let this day end with me cooking dinner so we got take out. Ha!

Everyone went to bed great and Wyatt was even in a good mood all night (besides the owies from the park). I think the time spent together helped. I'm kinda nervous for what the night will bring but what's new?

Tomorrow will most definitely be different Im sure and even some tears will probably be shed but today was good. Day by day is my new motto. And today I felt my prayers were answered.

Post edit: yeah, the night was rough. Will we ever get sleep again? Even with the monitor turned down I still couldn't sleep knowing they were crying. Sometimes I think the newborn stage would be easier.....sometimes.

A moment to remember

I had the sweetest little moment with Liam tonight. It is something I think I will always remember. We had just gotten home from FHE at a pumpkin patch. Wyatt was whining the whole way home and the babies were tired (can you believe I let them go past their bedtime?) Needless to say, things were crazy!

As I was finishing up feeding Elizabeth I was looking at Liam all wrapped up on the couch. Now, you must know that it has been difficult to get this kid to smile but lately he loves to.

I just looked over and gave a smile to Liam not expecting anything. But all of a sudden I got the cutest little smile from Liam. It happened again and again.

It was so sweet and a definite tender mercy. Most of the time I'm stressing over their schedules or cursing their names when they don't sleep good but this tender moment made me happy. For a moment I forgot about all the bad.

Twins are 5 months

I had all their stats in what I thought a draft but apparently I didn't save it. Bummer! We had their four month checkup last week (and yes I realize we are behind). Our dr moved and it took us awhile to get into our next preferred dr so, alas, it took another month. Plus, we were sick so I guess it all worked out.

Elizabeth
Weight-15 lbs- 50%
Height-something like 26.5 in 85%

Liam
Weight-13lbs-5%
height-around 26

-Elizabeth can roll over from back to tummy but has seem to forgotten how to do tummy to back. She can do it but won't. I have been finding her the past few morning on her tummy asleep.
- Liam is getting is head up more on tummy time so that's good.
-Liam is also turning onto his side and will probably roll over in the next month.
-Naps are still about 45 minutes for Elizabeth but occasionally she will give me a longer one. Liam could give me the coveted two naps if I could just let him sleep but I am finding I always have to wake him up because Elizabeth has been up to long. In order to keep on somewhat similar schedules I have to wake Liam up about 15-30 minutes after Elizabeth wakes so at some points in the day I don't always have a baby up. Oh the joys of twins!
-both babies love to be played with. Liam loves his name and will smile after hearing it. Elizabeth smiles even when you are talking to Liam because she wants attention or she thinks you are talking to her. Lol
-Wyatt loves that they are smiling and interacting more with him. I love it too!

We love our babies even though we are wondering if we will ever sleep again. :) Maybe one day. Sigh.

Plagued

Our house has been plagued with sickness for the past month. Liam got it, Elizabeth got something too. Then Liam got another thing then Elizabeth had it too. You see a pattern? They keep giving it to each other. And I honestly think Liam is coming down with something again. Will it ever end? It's not even cold/flu season yet. I can't keep up.

Then Wyatt has this mysterious bump on his neck that looks like a swollen lymphnode. Seriously?! He's on antibiotics now too. If it gets worse he may have to get it removed. What?!

To top it all off Jason was gone for the week in NY while I spent days at the dr office and nights awake with sick kids. Needless to say I'm a wreck. My knees have never been so rough from praying so hard and I've never cried so much in my life.

I know you guys are jealous of my life. I wish I could just curl up in a ball and make it all just magically disappear. I hate to be Debbie downer but this past month has been hard. A plus side- I've lost weight from not exercising and eating crappy this past week. :)

Just when the bad days were starting to get fewer I have a ton of them all in a row. Sucks! Luckily I've had people offer to help and have gotten Rxs for me, brought me Diet Cokes, taken Wyatt, etc. I have such great family and friends.

So here's to a better month.

Round Two....another ear infection

This poor kid can't catch a break. Just when he starts to get better he gets diarrhea again and his bum gets even more sore and red. Ever since the hospital, Liam (and Jason and I for that matter) haven't gotten the best of sleep. He is up at least twice but most of the time three times. Every time his bum is covered with poop and I'm sure it just stings.

I haven't been able to go to the gym but at least I go out for a quick run every morning. Except for today. I was just too tired. It's a first for me, besides the morning I was in hospital with Liam.

I decided that something seriously wasn't right with sweet Liam last night. Sure enough he has another ear infection. Hopefully we get over this one quick and everyone can get some sleep around here. And that we avoid hospitals.

We are doomed when cold/flu season comes around in a month or two. This kid is on the path to get tubes in ears i just know it. I wonder if Amazon sells baby bubbles that he could live in for the next few months.

Poor kid.

First Primary Program

Wyatt sang and participated in his first Primary program in our church. After practicing his part many times at home he finally had the First Article of Faith memorized. He did such a great job singing and threw in a few actions here and there to put a smile on a few faces....okay maybe just Jason and I were the ones smiling but who's keeping track? :) I was thoroughly impressed that he knew every word to every song.

Surprisingly, I held it together. I thought I would shed a tear or two but I was too busy beaming with pride. Elizabeth and Liam loved it too. I even caught Jason mouthing some of the songs (he used to be in Primary).

One cute story: I kept telling Wyatt that I was probably going to cry because I was so proud of him. He said, "Mom, after we are done singing really good for our parents I'll come home and give you a hug."

Love my Wyatt.

Btw-I didn't take this pic but glad I have it. :)

Twins are 4 months

The twins are four months old. And with that age comes sickness. Do all babies get sick at 4 months because that's when Wyatt got his first cold? Well, I'm thinking they do because all three of mine have. :)

Here is what is happening at four months:

Elizabeth
-still fights sleep but is getting better putting her down.
-LOVES to scream out loud with excitement
-kicks and waves her arms like crazy
-gives the best smiles and giggles especially at bathtime
-has rolled over from tummy to back a few times and is so close to rolling from back to tummy
-my good night sleeper

Liam
-got really sick (another post for that)
-still is the easiest and calmest baby
-smiles a lot more and interacts more too
-loves to cuddle
-occasionally can get a word, scream, or coo in between Elizabeth's rantings.
-loves to just relax or chill during tummy time. He is in no rush to get anywhere.
-my good day sleeper

Both babies love/do:
-when Wyatt plays with them
-toys
-chewing on fingers
-sleep 12 hours at night and still take 45 minute naps (4 naps/day)....Liam has been struggling with night sleep since he got sick so hopefully he gets back to his normal routine. :)
-eat about every 3 hours during the day

We just love our babies!

Safely gathered home

My mom used to say she couldn't really sleep until all her chicks were safely at home, even though many nights when I came home from hanging out with friends she would be dead asleep or so I thought. I didn't believe it until now.

This past week our sweet Liam was admitted to the hospital for dehydration. Needless to say no one got much sleep that night. I tried to sleep but knowing my baby was getting poked, proded, and not knowing what was wrong with him kept me from entering dreamland.

Once the IV kicked in he became his normal, calm self and was smiling to anyone who would look his way. It was a good thing Jason was the one to take him that night because I'm not sure how I could handle seeing him get the IV in. Plus, I would have been bugged when he was all smiles at 10 pm. :)

The next morning when I showed up my Liam was his normal self. I had missed him so much and it was nice to see life back in him.

We had a long few days at the hospital. I was so bored and was so thankful for my phone. Luckily I had my favorite people come visit. Everyone missed Liam!

We came home and love the sweet spirit that Liam brings into our home. We are so happy he is okay. It's a lot easier to sleep knowing all your chicks are gathered safely at home.

Wise words from my hairdresser

We all know how hairdressers sometimes act as our own personal counselors. They mostly just listen to whatever is on our minds that day but sometimes they give advice.

My last appointment was no different. As I explained my woes of dealing with two babies, she listened intently. You see, Miss Elizabeth was having problems falling asleep on her own. I had to spend more time than I wanted to bounce her to sleep to ensure they slept together and I had a whole naptime to play with Wyatt, get things done, or do whatever.

As we sat there waiting for my hair to process I waited for her reply. You must know a few things about my stylist. She a) is a woman of few words. Yes, I do most the talking while there. And b) is not a newborn person like myself so coming from her meant a lot.

She said (I'm paraphrasing) "Don't worry about it. She will get it. They grow up so fast. Now that my kids are older I don't regret rocking them to sleep one bit." I'm not sure if she was choking up a bit or if she had something in her eye but I felt it. I felt the shake in her voice and saw the glisten in her eye that taught me that day. Taught me to just enjoy it.....all of it. Even every bounce to put Elizabeth to sleep or comforting sick babies. Every last second.

So I started to. And guess who started to go to sleep on her own better? I guess she was waiting for me to relax. :)

So when you find a good hair stylist you stick with her.

Peaceful trips

Jason has been traveling A LOT for work. I swear he is gone almost every other week. And when he is he tries to only be gone a night or two. Lately it's been Monday thru Thursday. Sigh, Btw-if he isn't home before bedtime I count it as another day. :)

Anyhoo, we try to "flirt" and send pictures of us throughout our day (especially when he is gone). He sends me nice, peaceful pictures of the airplane, the city landscapes, etc.

One particular trip he sent me a pic and he said, "It's a beautiful, sunny day here. Love ya. Hope you have a good day."

When I got the text the babies were hungry and I was just about to feed them. But I thought I would be funny and take a picture of them screaming and send to Jason to see what he was missing out on. :)

I said, "Have a peaceful trip!"

So I about died laughing when I saw this on Pinterest because it's SO how I feel after he gets home from a trip.
