The Brashires

While I was in Utah I got to meet the Brashire Family. This family is a refugee family from Burundi now living in my parents' ward. My mom was called recently to be a ward missionary-basically in charge of this "new" project. She is such an amazing women! She goes over to their house every day to help teach them English. She calls it the "Daily Dose" (it's actually a program that the Church has for people who don't speak English). That family loves her. Who wouldn't? She takes them on outings to help them adjust to life in Utah. (it makes me think I need to spend more time in my calling)

Well, I got to go over and help teach twice. It was such a great experience. It made me want to be a better teacher because I had such a great time teaching them English. They were all so excited to learn every last bit. They always want you to stay longer. In the ward newsletter it said that it was their birthday on Jan. 1st (we aren't really sure if that is the right date but we did it anyway). We wanted to teach them how to celebrate birthdays American style. My mom and I sang "Happy Birthday" several times and then they sang it with us. We had someone blow out the candles. Then we lit them again, sang, and blew them out again. We repeated this a few times (they have about 7 kids). It was so cute to see them sing and point to the person we sang to. All of the kids just love having people pay attention to them. They are so cute!

It is great to see you back blogging. Thanks for the kind words about your mumsie. I have new stories every day about the Bashires. Can't wait to see you soon as in today.

That sounds like such a fun calling! That is great that you got to visit a few times. It's amazing how grateful you feel after spending time with wonderful, humble people like that.
