Pushing for two

By the time we got checked in and hooked up to meds it was 1130pm. Let the fun begin. I was progressing very slowly so I knew it would be a long night.

I got the epidural around 3am because I figured if I was going to get it anyway, why even suffer a little bit? Plus, maybe I could get some sleep.

But who knew monitoring twins was a full time job? Our nurse sure earned her money that night. We had our share of scary moments (at least I was). After my epidural I felt sick. As I was thinking to myself which would be the best place to throw up, about three nurses came in. My blood pressure had dropped and Liam didn't like it. He dipped many times throughout the night but always recovered.

I must say I was a praying fool that night. I felt all of the prayers that had ever been said for us and the twins that night. I truly felt that Heavenly Father was watching over us.

I became kind of emotional just thinking of the what ifs. Plus, I didn't want to have one vaginally and one c section. That would make for a rough recovery. But prayers were answered and as Elizabeth made her way down, Liam started turning his head down. Hooray! Another reason for the watery eyes was change. There was no turning back now. My life was changing forever. (I've always been a bit fearful of the unknown...remind me to tell you about moving to AZ).

After a long night, and I'll add the most comfortable I've been in FOREVER,still no babies. But when my dr arrived in the morning (845 am) to check on me, he announced it was time to have some babies.

I pushed for about 10 minutes with Elizabeth. It was very difficult-even with an epidural. She just didn't want to come out. I felt with Wyatt he just popped out after I just made the pushing face. Lol. She finally came out and all was well. I kept thinking, "Ugh! I have to do that again?"

I'm a wuss, I know. But I really felt like I had pushed for hours. Thank heavens for epidurals or I really might have died. :) And after 8 more "long" minutes of pushing, Liam was born.

Both were healthy as ever. 9/9 APGAR scores for both at 2/5 minute marks. I may have complained more than my share the last few weeks of pregnancy but at that moment I was glad they had time to cook.

Liam struggled a bit with low blood sugar but we all survived and made it safely to postpartum as Brahm's Lullaby played over the loud speaker....twice!
