So, this past week has been pretty exciting for me. Today was the last day of school (even though I still have to go back tomorrow morning to "check out"). Not only was it the last day of school for the year but of my teaching career-at least for now. I have decided to leave the profession for awhile and sub. I'm soooo excited! I still get to do what I love without the "extra" stuff that is involved with being a teacher. I thought I would feel a bit upset but actually the opposite has happened. I'm totally excited! Of course I will miss all of the great friends I have made and the wonderful students I have had over the years! But next year I will be subbing (and I'm sure plenty of those days will be spent at Longfellow) so it won't be goodbye, just a different hello!
This is what we've been up to this past week at school. On Tuesday we went to the park for our end of year party. Of course, it was record breaking heat (in AZ that means HOT--I think it was 111)....luckily the sprinklers came on! I was worried about the heat advisory but the we had a great time signing yearbooks, playing soccer, eating pizza, and playing games.
Today, was the opposite. It was water day for us in the afternoon and who would have guessed that it would rain. My students were troopers and we played in the rain for awhile but some are too skinny that they were going to lose a few teeth if I let them stay out any longer.

Yeah, the 60 degree change in temps from Monday to Friday was crazy! Looks like a fun week.
Tonight Justin asked me if I was sad that tomorrow was my last day, and I actually feel the same way as you. I'm excited to stay home with the girls full time.
Such a HUGE congrats Kate! You have been instrumental in so many lives, the influence you have had cannot begin to be measured! I am SO looking forward to hearing of all your new adventures!!!
Yeah for surviving another school year! And that is great that next year you are going to sub and be able to have some more time for you and doing what you want to do. I hope you and Jason have some fun adventures planned for the summer!
And I can't even imagine 111 degrees right now - I think our high was 59 today!
Congrats on your "retirement"!! I'm excited for you!!
Yeah, I watched like the last 5 minutes of "so you think you can dance" and I must admit it was pretty entertaining!
Maybe now that you aren't working this summer we can get together during the day sometime!!
Kate, you are a fabulous teacher and I thank you for all of the creativity, humor, and love you brought to our school. When the good ones go, they should be responsible for replacing themselves with a clone.
