Last night as I was watching Biggest Loser I was so excited that Sione and Felipe got to do the Haka but at the same time I was disappointed. Disappointed? Me with anything Polynesian? Yes. My friend commented on my blog about it and I feel the same way. I decided that it was blog worthy to make sure the world knows the truth.
The dance they performed is the Haka. It is a Maori dance from New Zealand. I, being a fellow Kiwi, wanted to share this info with you. On the show they said that it was a Tongan dance. Although most, if not all, Polynesians know this dance, it originated in Aotearoa (NZ). You can thank me later in case this topic ever pops up in conversation so you don't look/feel stupid thinking it was a Tongan dance. Now the truth is out!
Let's get things straight.

thank you for the wonderful explanation Kate! You would know! LOL
Thank you Kate. You put into words the feelings of my heart. Man those Maori's never get credit where credit is due!
True, Kate. And...Highland Rugby and the U of U Rugby team did it before the Y Football team took it over... but who cares, right? :)
Anyway, what I really wanted to say was:
Congratulations on the Tri!
You do ROCK!
Phew, glad that is cleared up for me. Now, what isn't cleared up is...what is your connection to New Zealand?
I thought the same thing! Serious! I was like, huh? I didn't notice until the tongue thing at the end... but then I was like, wait, I thought they were from Tonga. You and me babe! Thanks for clarifying!!
