I just returned from a trip to the middle of America...Omaha! My sister and brother-in-law live there going to dental school. Devin, my BIL, called me and planned for my arrival. He wanted to surprise my sister for her birthday. I couldn't come on her actually birthday but a week or so later. He kept feeding her lies (as she calls it) but they were mere tactics to keep the surprise. He told her that he bought something kind of late and that it would take 7-10 business shipping days to get there. She and her friend figured it out that it would come on the day that I got there.
The day before I got there, Becca was just venting to her friend that no one (especially her sister) was ever going to come visit her in Omaha. She said that instead of coming to see her on my babymoon I went to Mexico instead. Then she told her friend, "Then she is going to have a baby and never come visit." Needless to say she was bitter that I wouldn't get to see her and her cute house!
Well, the day arrived to surprise the sissy! Devin picked me up from the airport and we drove home. She was outside with baby Hugh and got this shocked look on her face when we pulled up. She couldn't believe her eyes! She was so surprised and happy to see me. Devin pulled it off! It was so hard for me not to say anything to her. I could only call her once because I was afraid it would leak out.
We did a lot of fun things. We visited some LDS Church history sites (Kanesville Chapel and Winter Quarters). They only live 20 minutes from these places so it was easy to get to.

We also went to the Henry Doorly Zoo, Botanical Gardens (well does walking down to the parking lot count?),
visited Devin at Creighton University,

ate at Panera, worked out, and did some shopping.
We did a lot of hanging out as well while the Bubbers (aka Hugh) slept. It was so fun seeing her in HER element in Omaha. She claims that she has returned to her shell but she is a social butterfly. She is president of the Dental Alliance there, knows everyone in the place that she lives, and cooks some mean Asain food (sorry I missed the fried eggplant!)

A visit would not be complete without some quality time with Baby Hugh. He is adorable! He is quite the walker now. He found that it is muck quicker to get around by walking (we had fun chasing him). He loves to clean, eat, play, eat, walk, eat, laugh, eat, smile, and eat. Did I mention he loves to eat? He really is NOT a picky eater. I hope that rubs off onto Junior! My favorite thing Hugh does right now is whenever you start to say, "Good job!" or "Good boy!" he stops what he is doing and starts to clap his hands and smile and laugh. It is so cute!!!

Thanks Devin and Becca for a fun trip! (Thanks Debo for letting me sleep on the bed too. My back and Junior thank you.) Don't worry, I'll talk it up to everyone I know and pretty soon your door will be flooding with visitors. Becca told me of a sign in Omaha that has become my new motto..."Omaha, the Good Life!" So, if you are looking for a fun adventure, try going to Omaha. You won't regret it!

I am so jealous of your quality sister time. I need that so bad right now, and so does my bff sister in UT. Looks like you guys had fun! And yes, your little nephew is A-DOR-A-BLE!!
Your post made me miss MY sister in UT. You're so great going to see her. I bet it was beautiful this time of year. Too bad you just missed Arbor Day. :)
ooooh I just love good surprises!! I bet that was so much fun. You guys are so cute together and little Hugh is so adorable!!
How Fun! I am glad you got to come out and visit the Mid-West! I have lived out here for 5 years now and NONE of my siblings have come for a visit (well, one brother did interview for his residency here so he stayed one night)! You weren't too far away from us in Iowa. If you guys come out again you will need to go down and visit Nauvoo too!
Glad you had fun, and you look PHENOMENAL! Pregnancy totally agrees w/ you you lucky duck!
You look like a supermodel in the black shirt photo.
First of all congrats on losing that unpleasant student!! Second, sounds like a great time for you in Omaha. A few years ago my Mom moved to Texas and she was always complaining saying no one would ever come visit her, so my kids and I surprised her at her door step the night before mothers day. she was in shock for the rest of the day. I wasn't sure if she was happy or mad...I think it was really just shock! My neice will be here in a few weeks and I can hardly wait! You look great BTW.
