Long story short...Yesterday, Wyatt had to pee in a bag!
Over the past week to two weeks there have been two incidents of finding red in Wyatt's diaper. Not in his stool, but in the front of the diaper. After the first incident I thought I would just monitor him to see what would happen. I noticed his "wet" diapers weren't as wet but I do change his diaper often so I thought that I wasn't giving it enough time to fill up. The diapers were always wet just not full. Well, it happened again on Sunday morning when Jason was changing his diaper. I decided it was time for a call.
Secretly I was hoping they would say it was nothing but they were glad I called and scheduled an appointment with the doctor. I hate going to the dr. because I am there for two hours every time. I always have to wait awhile and Wyatt screams so I have to always nurse too. Yesterday was no exception. We had to wake Wyatt up from his nap (and I swear he had just fallen asleep), nurse him while we waited, and then the exam. He was smiley during the first part of the exam. Then Dr. Jones wanted to run some tests on his urine...either have him pee in a bag or put a catheter in. We chose the bag! We had to sit around waiting for Wyatt to pee. They set a timer every 15 minutes to check but we didn't need a timer. Jason was a ticking time bomb dancing around waiting and checking every minute. While Jason was dancing I was reading my book. He wanted to get out of there so badly. Who didn't? Wyatt was crying for some of the time, I felt like crying, and I'm sure everyone was annoyed. Finely the nurse told me to feed him to see if that would help. It did. 15 minutes after I nursed he peed. We were all cheering because he finally peed! Wyatt was SO tired but we made it through the visit. The dr. actually came back in to go over some of the results and wanted to check his ears again because he was really fussy. No ear infection...just tired (and just had to pee in a bag)! I would be cranky too. So, on Jason's day off, we spent about 2 hours in the dr.'s office! Yawn! I really was looking forward to doing something fun but we have to make sacrifices for our kids, right?
The results...everything looks great! They are doing a culture and we will find out the results later this week but if it happens again we have to go in for more testing to see if it is a UTI. Dr. Jones thought that it might just be those crystals babies get when a little dehydrated. My question...how can he be dehydrated when he eats a lot? It does happen in the morning after sleeping a LONG time so maybe he does get a little parched in the middle of the night. I'll have to put a water bottle by his crib so he can fulfill that thirst. He got my thirsty gene!

I love reading your blog! Its always some thing interesting and funny!! Poor little guy having to pee in a bag! Hope it all comes back good!!
The exact same thing happened to Logan when he was younger and we took him to the doctor. Thank heavens we didn't have to do the pee in a bag! I didn't even know they did that but I would definitely choose that over a catheter! Anyways turns out he was just dehydrated. Hopefully that is all it is with Wyatt!! I still need to come by to see you since last time didn't quite work out! :)
Yip, he'll probably be the only 2 year old carrying around a water bottle every where he goes. :) Glad he's OK. Keep us posted. BTW, I can just see Jason dancin' and you reading your book!
Doctor's appointments with newborns are a pain--and so are appointments with older kids. Dane is still a pain to take to the doctor. Now, instead of bawling, he tries to mess with their stuff, open the door and run out, mess with their stuff some more and demands candy from me. (Whether I have it or not!) Ugh. I can't stand going to the doctor. Poor little baby--he just wanted to be left alone! Hope everything turns out okay!
wow, this happened to me too. but, i am anti doctor so we just let it pass by. I called my pediatrician and she just said that it was a common thing, and as long as you dont see blood more then 4 times you have nothing to worry about.
good luck with wyatt.
It has only been like a week, and I swear you've added like 10 posts! Izzy was looking at Wyatt's photos with me, and when I told her his name she said, "oh, like Baby Super Why?" - do you know that show? It is one of her favorites, and the star is named Wyatt. You're such a cute little mommy.
