Friendly Beasts FHE

For Family Night last night, Wyatt and I practiced a song my mom and her sisters have been singing for as long as I can remember....and even longer than that. I have never really known the words until my Aunt Dott put it on Facebook for all to see. I printed out the words, guitar chords, and broke out the puppets. My mom gave me some "puppets" aka golf club warmers intended for this song a few years back and I'm finally using them for their original purpose-instead of just attention getters in a classroom.

Wyatt and I went over the song several times in preparation to sing it for Daddy for FHE. The practices went well but when it came time to perform for Daddy, Wyatt was just interested in showing off his break dancing skills. At least he got the message because the rest of the night he kept going over to the animals and putting them on his arm and pretending to sing.

Here is my Aunt Dott singing it so you can show your kids (and learn the tune if you want):

Here are the guitar chords and the words:
D A D
D G A D
D G A D
D A D

Jesus our saviour kind and good
Was humbly born in a stable of wood
And the friendly beasts around Him stood
Jesus our saviour kind and good

"I" said the donkey shaggy and brown
"I carried His mother up hill and down
I carried her safely to Bethlehem town"
"I" said the donkey shaggy and brown

"I" said the cow all white and red
"I gave Him my manger for a bed
I gave Him my hay for to pillow His head
"I" said the cow all white and red

"I" said the sheep with the curly horn
"I gave Him my blanket for a warm
And he wore my coat on that Christmas morn
"I" said the sheep with the curly horn

"I" said the dove from the rafters high
"I cooed Him to sleep so He would not cry
We cooed Him to sleep my mate and I
"I" said the dove from the rafters high

"I" said the camel all yellow and black
"Over the desert upon my back
I brought Him a gift in the wise men's pack
"I" said the camel all yellow and black

Thus every beast remembering it well
In the stable dark was so proud to tell
Of the gifts they gave Emmanuel
the gifts they gave Emmanuel
